RESPONSIBILITIES : The University of Alabama Libraries seeks a talented and energetic professional Web Development Project Lead in the Web Technologies and Development. This position will report to the Web Technologies and Development Manager, and will serve as project manager for assigned. web development projects. This position will play an important role in shaping the application and web development processes, and will be responsible for guiding developers to the successful completion of complex technology projects. The Web Development Projects Lead will actively engage in web project and application development work as directed by library needs, and the Manager of Web Technologies and Development. In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, the Web Development Project Lead will also be responsible for management and development of the University Libraries' instance of EBSCO Discovery Service. The successful candidate will supervise 1-2 faculty members and 1-2 student workers. S/he will also oversee web project work of five or more faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will maintain a knowledge of current best practices in all areas of responsibility with special attention to security. S/he will identify promising new technologies that can positively impact services or generate a better user experience and will be an innovative and entrepreneurial professional who desires to work in a creative, collaborative and respectful environment. Web Technologies and Applications area is responsible for the development of such nationally recognized tools as our Bento search interface and our innovative applications of EBSCO's EDS tool. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : * MLS / MLIS degree from an ALA accredited program, or equivalent. *Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse constituencies; comfort with ambiguity; and effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. *Ability to supervise faculty, staff, and student projects. *Significant experience (3 year+) developing for LAMP systems / extensive familiarity with PHP and MySQL or other back-end development tools. Must be able to write SQL queries and PHP code, and show understanding of web application usage using these tools within a Linux and Apache environment. *Extensive familiarity with front-end development using JavaScript and JavaScript libraries, AJAX , JSON , HTML 5 and CSS3. *Extensive experience using JavaScript and CSS to create customizations to EBSCO Discovery Service *Must have experience connecting APIs with custom search interfaces, with special regard for Library Discovery APIs. *Experience creating widgets with the LibApps API . *Experience configuring and maintaining institutional repositories. *Familiarity with version control systems in a development environment. *Familiarity with basic UX, iterative design, and mobile first methodologies. *Experience developing within a WordPress environment. *Ability to problem solve creatively. *Ability to set and follow through on both individual and team priorities and goals. *Aptitude for learning new technologies and working in a dynamic environment. *Demonstrated comfort with an evolving technology landscape. *A desire to be awesome, and develop awesome projects. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : *4+ years of programming and development experience in a web environment using LAMP tools. *Experience developing for, and supporting, common open-source library applications such as Omeka, ArchiveSpace, DSpace, etc. *Experience developing for WordPress ( API , Theme development) *Experience with Java, C, Python or Ruby. *Familiarity with NoSQL databases and concepts. *Experience interacting with and manipulating REST API data / JSON arrays for web application or mobile development, and RAML . *Experience with professional workflows using IDEs, staging servers, Git, Grunt, and Bower. *Familiarity with Node.js, Bootstrap, Angular.js. *Familiar with UX methodologies and processes. *Experience with web security issues, HTTPS , and developing secure applications. *Experience utilizing and developing for open-source projects.
