The School of Music at the University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Ph.D. in historical musicology required by time of appointment; college teaching experience preferred. We seek a creative and collegial musicologist whose scholarly interests center on pre-1600 and/or post-1900 music. Primary duties will include the teaching of a wide range of courses in music history and musicology at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including graduate seminars and undergraduate surveys; maintaining an active scholarly production suitable for a research institution; serving on graduate student advisory committees, as well as SOM and University committees; directing theses and other research projects when appropriate. It is located in Tuscaloosa, a city of 100,000 that was named an All-American City by the National Civic League. The School of Music is part of the College of Arts and Sciences and serves approximately 400 music majors and numerous non-majors across the university. The School offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance, Music Therapy, and Theory/Composition, the Bachelor of Science degree in both instrumental and vocal/choral Music Education, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in both General Music and Music Administration. Additionally, the School offers the Master of Music degree in Performance, Composition and Musicology. And it is the only institution in the state to offer the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, doing so in Performance (including Conducting) and Composition. It currently employs 38 tenured or tenure-track faculty and 22 part-time faculty.
