Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in reading education, language arts education, elementary education or curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in literacy education Minimum 2 years full-time classroom teaching experience at the pre-K to 6 level Ability to pursue a research agenda and external funding in literacy education; evidence of scholarly potential Ability to teach courses in foundations of reading, methods of reading and language arts pre-K to 6 Ability to teach how to integrate childrens literature in the context of teaching reading, writing and the language arts Understand the role childrens literature plays in childrens literacy and language development Ability to teach courses in general elementary education Ability to integrate technology into instruction including web-assisted and other alternative delivery models Ability to teach with a multicultural perspective Preferred Qualifications: Experience and expertise in early literacy Expertise in children's literature Ability to situate research and coursework within a social justice/equity framework Ability to integrate inclusion concepts into instruction Experience with ESL populations Experience working in collaborative settings Further information about the program and college is accessible at www.education.ua.edu.
