The Department of Human Nutrition and Hospitality Management at The University of Alabama seeks applications from individuals with an interest and expertise in the role of nutrition in microbiome-host physiological interactions and/or the role of metals on gut microbiome and human health for hire at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank. This position will be part of a cluster of positions in conjunction with the Departments of Chemistry and Biology at The University of Alabama; start-up requests will be negotiable and highly competitive. We are particularly interested in applicants with a terminal degree in nutritional biochemistry, epidemiology, or related fields and a strong background in nutritional/genetic epidemiology or microbiology. Applicants should have knowledge and research experience in modern methods of microbiome-host ecology and be familiar with current experimental and analytical tools for studying the microbiome, such as metagenomics. The successful applicant will have a highly visible research program in one of these areas, an established record of sustained research funding, and an interest in building a strong core of scientists within the scope of microbiome research. Strong applicants currently at the upper-Assistant Professor level are encouraged to apply for consideration for Associate Professor. Strong applicants currently at the upper-Associate Professor level are encouraged to apply for consideration for Full Professor. Teaching responsibilities will be in the candidates area of expertise.
