Maintain an active research/publication record Teach graduate courses Advise graduate students Work collaboratively with other colleges within the University Seek external funds Serve on committees The University of Alabama College of Education Department of Special Education and Multiple Abilities Position: Associate or Full Professor of Special Education (Tenure Track) The Department of Special Education and Multiple Abilities at the University of Alabama announces an opening for a tenured faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level with expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorders. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary cluster hire in collaboration with the Departments of Communicative Disorders and Psychology. The goal is to identify renowned autism researchers in each of the three disciplines who would be expected to build a strong collaborative autism research program, engage the community, and build a strong basis of extramural funding. This cluster hire is part of the University of Alabama's initiative to raise its level of research productivity. These new professors will be expected to contribute to the newly established Alabama Life Research Institute. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in special education or a related field with research, teaching, and service productivity commensurate with a tenured faculty position. We seek a top scholar who heads a thriving collaborative research program and has a strong history of external funding. The ideal candidate will have an interest in mentoring students as well as junior faculty. The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the flagship campus of a three-campus system. The University is located in Tuscaloosa, a city of approximately 100,000 that was named an All-America City by the National Civic League. The Department has 15 faculty members and offers bachelors, masters, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees in education. The Special Education Department houses the Alabama Positive Behavior Support Office, which provides research, training, and technical assistance to schools, and the Evidence-based International Early Intervention Office, which conducts research, provides training, and facilitates implementation of evidence-based practices. It also houses CrossingPoints and the associated Summer Bridge program, which trains youth, many of whom have ASD , making the transition to adult life, including employment, postsecondary education, and independent living. Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in special education or related field Evidence of scholarly achievement for associate or full professor level Funded research in autism Preferred Qualifications: Track record of completed research published in top-tier journals Track record of external funding for research Expertise in the identification or education of children with autism spectrum disorder, support of their families, or training of professionals working with them Knowledge of evidence-based practices and non-evidence-based practices Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, especially fellow researchers in this cluster, from Psychology and Communicative Disorders Knowledge of instructional technology applications and distance delivery Responsibilities: Maintain an active research/publication record Teach graduate courses Advise graduate students Work collaboratively with other colleges within the University Seek external funds Serve on committees Further information about the program and college is accessible at www.education.ua.edu.
