The Special Education Teacher provides instruction as well as an appropriate learning environment for children with special needs. Develops and implements individual instructional plans. Communicates with the student's families or guardians. Supervises other classroom staff. Additional Department Summary: This position is required to have a current Teacher Certificate issued by the Alabama State Department of Education. Required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education, special education, child development, psychology or related field. Experience with administering and interpreting student assessments. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations. Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A current Teacher Certificate issued by the Alabama State Department of Education OR the ability to obtain a Teacher Certificate issued by the Alabama State Department of Education within six (6) months of employment. Must be able to perform crisis intervention techniques. Must have valid US driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current Brewer-Porch Children's Center employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Preferred Qualifications: Certification in the area of Special Education preferred. 57 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 33675.24 Midpoint - $ 49171.20 Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation. A prior conviction reported as a result of the background investigation DOES NOT automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. A candidate with a prior conviction will receive an individualized review of the prior conviction before a hiring decision is made.
